Cloves are the fruit of a tree indigenous to Indonesia. In a comprehensive global analysis of over 3100 different foods published in the January 2010 edition of the Nutrition Journal, clove was found to have the highest antioxidant contents of all the foods studied! This study reflects that found in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2006 where clove was originally found to be the king of antioxidant foods. In addition to their culinary uses, they have mild analgesic properties and oil of clove has long been used in dentistry as a treatment for toothache.
